Any compression numbers for Dirty Transparency over a larger image bank? And what about computing the average as the average of the individual compression ratios?

I mean, when computing the Average of the individual compression ratios on the actual image bank, the results are 35% vs 32% in favor of Dirty Transparency. So, the benefits are only 3% in this case (instead of 12%).

The significant difference in the average results depending on the average calculation method (12% vs 3%) comes from the fact that, with the method you used for computing the average, the bigger the file is, the bigger its impact on the overall average. And, since the larger file (by far) is the only one having a compression rate > 6% when compared to 'No Dirty Tr' (i.e. 43%-7%=36%), it has a big impact on the overall average.... However, when computing the average of the individual compression results, each file has the same weight in the average.

IMO, both methods for computing the average are good but they give different information... However, I was wondering what are the benefits of Dirty Transparency over a large image bank when using both average calculation methods.

Thanks.

@Kim: We have a private beta for our API that launched last weekend. Joost de Valk is helping me out by working on a Wordpress plugin for the API. Let me know if you want access to the beta API, and I can set you up.

Great tool, or should I say great proof of concept... Will this tool be for sale, licensing, API? I cannot simply upload images manually either... For bloggers that wants to crunch that ekstra KB this is a great tool, however as a bonus feature in a gallery or CMS how can this be of any benefit at all?

Dont missunderstand me, great tool, however I just can't see how I can benefit from it...

Hi, unfortunately this service doesn't work behind a proxy owing to limitations in the Flash player's compatibility with proxies. For example see this thread at SWFUpload's forum:

http://swfupload.org/forum/generaldiscussion/184

Any chance of offering a form-based uploader as a fallback? Otherwise it's not usable to us in a corporate environment at this time.
