Good afternoon!
I study some time, optimisation of pictures (JPEG and PNG) and often I use your service for these purposes, however because of a number of restrictions in service, have walked to write own algorithm of optimisation of pictures.
For JPEG
"jpegtran.exe"-copy all-optimise-perfect "%% ~fi" "%% ~fi"
"jhead.exe"-dc-de-di-dx-du "%% ~fi"
Or
"jpegtran.exe"-copy all-progressive-perfect "%% ~fi" "%% ~fi"
"jhead.exe"-dc-de-di-dx-du "%% ~fi"
Use of this or that algorithm depends on a situation
As I understand, you use progressive compression for JPEG.
In certain cases I lose to your service in compression JPEG, and I would like to learn why and how it can be corrected?
And still, how I understand, in PNG with an alpha the channel, you change all transparent pixels to one transparent colour, as shown here?
http://www.artlebedev.ru/tools/technogrette/img/png-3/
Thanks for attention!

Thank you for great walk through of the 7D.
I work in the film and television, and wanted to shoot a project with the 7D.
I had a lot of questions about the camera before finding you on Vimeo.
You answered them all. I will save the link to this sight, for when i want to refresh my memory.

Any compression numbers for Dirty Transparency over a larger image bank? And what about computing the average as the average of the individual compression ratios?

I mean, when computing the Average of the individual compression ratios on the actual image bank, the results are 35% vs 32% in favor of Dirty Transparency. So, the benefits are only 3% in this case (instead of 12%).

The significant difference in the average results depending on the average calculation method (12% vs 3%) comes from the fact that, with the method you used for computing the average, the bigger the file is, the bigger its impact on the overall average. And, since the larger file (by far) is the only one having a compression rate > 6% when compared to 'No Dirty Tr' (i.e. 43%-7%=36%), it has a big impact on the overall average.... However, when computing the average of the individual compression results, each file has the same weight in the average.

IMO, both methods for computing the average are good but they give different information... However, I was wondering what are the benefits of Dirty Transparency over a large image bank when using both average calculation methods.

Thanks.

Great vid, thanks for taking the time to make these..very useful. I thought of myself as a purist until I put my hands on a 7D. It was fun to use and as a photographer, I didn't feel like the performance of the camera was compromised by the added functionality of shooting video.

Good stuff. thanks conrad.
i suggest ending the post with an open question to elicit comments such as "what other tutorials would you like to see?" "what has your experience been shooting with the dslr vs a video camera?" something like that :)

I'll be sure to post any questions i have here.
